It Finally Happened
So, last Friday the Econopocalypse finally touched me. I was one of seventeen people at my plant to get laid off, and I think most of us saw it coming. When my boss came and tapped my shoulder and said “you have a second?” I knew what was up and took it like a man.
Side note: Getting laid off is a very interesting experience, and I’ll relay the whole episode play-by-play in a couple of days.
Mother Honeywell must feel bad about it all, because she’s paying me until October 1st, and letting me keep my benefits for that long as well. It’s nice that she’s doing that because my recent trip to NYC (more on that later) did a good job of depleting my cash on hand, and though I still have some savings, I’d like to use that to buy a car.
Friday night, after work, a bunch of people got together at a local bar to say final goodbye’s (because when they “walk you out” they really do walk you out—the only people that you can say anything to are the ones who sit by you or that you pass on the way to the door) and in a brief moment where I was standing by myself I looked around at the 50 or so Honeywell “family members” and realized that there were more ex-employees in attendance than current. I don’t know what that says about the company, but I do know that it says a lot about the bond that those people form. It really was/is a family, and I’m prooud to be a part of it.
So, yeah, that was my week last week: Met a wicked cool girl (who actually likes me), got laid off, watched the Crew play in New York, and spent two days walking around the East Village. Three out of four aint bad, right? I’ll take it.
I should let everyone know that because I was using an office laptop, posts here will kind of sparse for a while. One of my first priorities is to buy a portable computing device of some kind, but that comes after food and rent, obvously. And I can email posts, but they’ll probably be short, sweet, and far between. In the meantime, I think I’m going to add my twitter feed to the sidebar so that you guys know I’m still alive.
So, all that being said, anyone know where I can get a job?
