Les Paul, 1915-2009
Les Paul, who invented the solid body electric guitar and basically changed music as we know it, died today at age 94. Paul was a jazz guitarist who began playing in and around Chicago in the 1930′s . Though his list of musical accomplishments is long and distinguished, he will be remembered most for “The Les Paul,” a Gibson guitar that he was influential in designing. Even people who don’t play guitar, like me, know that he was one of those people without whom we wouldn’t have modern Rock and Roll.
God Speed, Les. And thanks.
